‘Summer-ising’ a summer of sporting success at Orreco
With autumn fast rolling in (or the Fall for our US friends!), it seems like a good time to summarise Orreco’s recent activities, given just how many athletes we work with and how many different sports our work cuts across.
The summer months saw a hugely productive blizzard of activity from Orreco’s global teams and individual clients but before we get into too much detail, let’s give England’s Euro 22-winning Lionesses another round of applause! Our scientists are privileged to work with the English FA and some of the best footballers in the women’s game today, including England and WSL and FA Cup double-winners winners Chelsea Women FC.
During Euro 22, we continued to provide England’s senior team with our FitrWoman app (it celebrated its 5th year in May!) and our FitrCoach platform. This helped the players and performance staff monitor and better understand players’ menstrual cycles and the potential effects on performance. Seeking to better support the health of England senior women’s squad, Orreco’s Female Athlete team will continue to work with the Lionesses right through to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The journey continues next month when the Lionesses meet USA in a prestige friendly at Wembley on Friday, October 7th. Our female athlete team also visited Costa Rice, to present at the FIFA Coach Mentorship conference for Womens’ Football.
With soccer very firmly in mind, Orreco is delighted to have added to our roster some of the world’s leading teams including Copa Libertadores finalists Flamengo of Brazil and the Uruguay national team, amongst others. We’re thrilled to have renewed agreements with Newcastle United, Benfica FC and Club America of Mexico. All concerned utilise our Real Time Internal Load Monitoring and Advanced Biomarker Analytics via our new Te@m platform.
Insights from our scientists on the issue of nutrition infusions appeared in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) the article was written by Professor Charlie Pedlar, Dr Nathan Lewis and Dr Andrew Hodgson of Orreco plus Casey Smith of the Dallas Mavericks, Dr Tamim Khanbhai of Spurs, Jen Sygo of the Toronto Raptors, Jordan Mazur of the San Francisco 49ers and Dr Paul Catterson of Newcastle United.
A busy soccer August was also boosted by a great start to the English Premier League season and at their new clubs for both Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal and Richarlison at Tottenham Hotspur – both players are Orreco clients.
Stateside, we enjoyed sharing in some big sporting moments as our clients excelled across all sports. The Dallas Mavericks led by Luca Dončić made it to the NBA Conference Finals, while Utah’s finest Haley Batten landed a podium finish at the World Mountain Bike Championships in France.
In Basketball, Orreco accepted an invitation from the NBA to exhibit at the NBA Sport Tech Expo in Las Vegas. We also attended a special event in Marbella in Spain at the invitation of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA)”: “The Sanctuary” was a unique performance retreat for players that comprised of basketball and cultural activities.
This season also sees all of our NFL team clients renew their agreements to use our services, while in swimming, USA Swimmer Allison Schmitt joins the Orreco Female Athlete team.
With the launch of our Te@m platform, wide spread roll out of @thlete, exciting news coming soon on our Female Athlete program and the recent announcement of the Orreco Motion Data Collective early research findings we are looking forward to the remainder of 2022.
Before I sign off, a special word for golfing legend and Orreco investor Padraig Harrington who recently snagged his third PGA Tour Champions title of the season – the Ascension Charity Classic in St Louis, to add to his US Senior Open title and Dick’s Sporting Goods Open win. Padraig’s longevity in golf is testament to his commitment to, and pursuit of, excellence in all that he does. It’s our privilege at Orreco to work with such an outstanding athlete.
