Orreco Review 2015

News

At ORRECO it all starts with the performance of the athlete. There is no better endorsement for us as a company than when our athletes talk about how we get them ready to perform.

This was clearly evident at a great session at last month’s Web Summit which was themed “The Science Can Swing It.”

It really set the scene for what promises to be a great 2016 for ORRECO and our family of staff, clients and investors. 2015 saw a surge in interest and media coverage about the many exciting innovations we are involved in, such as IBM Watson.

Our friend and client the incomparable Padraig Harrington, joined commercial director Niall Bruton on stage for a compelling Q&A session about elite sport, the science of performance and the crucial role that ORRECO plays in his detailed approach to training and competition.

The Web Summit played host to a whole range of mini-summits including tech and fashion – but sport proved to be one of the best-attended segments of the three-day event at Dublin’s RDS.

A full house was on hand at the Web Summit as Newstalk sports presenter and commentator Nathan Murphy hosted the ORRECO Q&A.

Nathan explored ORRECO’s success in providing elite sports stars such as Padraig with the data and roadmaps they need in order to train better, compete harder and stay injury-free.

Padraig’s insights attracted a lot of media coverage including stories about ORRECO in the Irish Times and Irish Independent as well as interviews for CBS Radio from the United States and the London-based International Business Times.

It capped a high-profile period which has seen the company and its work profiled globally with major feature pieces in the Washington Post, the Guardian, which carried an in-depth interview with Dr Brian Moore and Dr Charles Pedlar, The Sunday Business Post and the Sunday Times.

Other media coverage has as recently as this week included the phenomenally successful youth and sports-orientated website Joe.ie.

In an extensive interview with journalist Colm Boohig, Padraig spoke about our actionable insights and evidence-based data.

“ORRECO gives me information that’s indisputable,” he said.“The system won’t lie to you, it tells you where you are in your training and what you have to do from there. It tells you whether to push on or hold back. “Because of my nature, I need the indisputable and I’ve been working with this team since early 2007 (before any of my majors).”

These are comments that another golfing great – our own Graeme McDowell – will identify with as he closed towards the end of 2015 with a fantastic win in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico.

Of course, while this year has been an exciting one in terms of new clients and media coverage, one of the undoubted highlights was our partnership with IBM Watson and our work within their eco-system.

Our Partnership with IBM Watson is a truly exciting challenge and through our work, we hope to bring our clients a competitive edge from 15-years of working with data gleaned from over 1,800 athletes.

Many of our clients led by the Nike Oregon track club, under the coaching expertise of Olympic medalist Mark Rowland, are currently fine-tuning their Olympic training schedules and through IBM Watson and other initiatives, we hope to make that Road to Rio run a little easier.

See you in 2016!
